Los Angeles based genre-blurring omie — also known as Rommel Gonzales Jr. — is a music artist driven by a deep growing passion for ambitious boundary-pushing art and media. Known for its raw songwriting and music production process, his artistically immature debut project A LONELY KARAOKE. was entirely created on his phone using Garageband. He’s also one-half of the experimental music duo BiNGO! that serves as a fun and playful contrast to his solo discography.
Raised in a quiet corner of California, omie began his music exploration early. He played clarinet for five years in elementary and middle school band, but his creative drive stretched far beyond the academic performances. Rommel began writing short tunes as a kid, beginning to craft complete compositions in middle school and winning two PTSA music composition competitions by the time he entered high school. Songwriting became a constant way to understand and grasp the emotional atmosphere of his world. It became a way of expressing a grand imagination.
Influenced by artists like My Chemical Romance and Cavetown, omie discovered his unique voice of vulnerability within the cracks of musical theatrics, sitting between raw emotion and conceptual ambition. A comfort of his art lies in the risk of absurdity.
